Where it started
From the heart of Texas to a table in Bothell
Ross and Amanda Baker moved from the heart of Texas to Washington State in 2019, carrying with them a deep love of Southern food, hospitality and community.
The idea of feeding people had been there all along: catering school events and church gatherings, feeding neighbors. For years it lived quietly alongside their careers in education. Ross spent more than twenty years as a teacher, a principal and a district leader; Amanda still teaches.
That instinct didn't stay in the classroom. It followed them into the kitchen, onto the food trailer and behind the counter of a small café in Bothell. The Texan exists not because a business plan demanded it, but because a seed planted in two people's hearts grew into something they could no longer ignore.

The personal part
In the hardest chapter, cooking became therapy
Ross's path to The Texan carries a more personal story, too: a significant health journey that brought him face to face with what matters most.
In a season when very little else was possible, he cooked. Meals for neighbors, meals for friends. It reminded him that feeding someone is one of the most human things you can do.
The Texan was born, in part, from that clarity.
Good food shared with care is never just about the food.
Where the name on the menu comes from
“This menu is a culmination of recipes that have been in our family for generations and new creations that we serve entertaining our family and friends. Welcome to our table and, what we consider, a taste of home.”
When we opened The Texan, we weren't launching a brand. We were extending our table to our community. Family recipes like buttermilk pie, sheet cake and kolaches are still on it.

With genuine care for everyone who comes through our door, we serve exceptional Southern-inspired food and drinks, and we treat every guest like a guest in our house. Texas by roots, not by costume: the warmth is real, so it doesn't need decoration.

Why we're here
We don't run The Texan to see how many products we can sell. We run it to make a difference.
The Texan is a family business, run alongside our sons John Ross and Remington and a team that has taken the mission as its own. Customers often tell us there's something real about this place, that they can tell the people behind it care. They're right. We do.
We're not trying to be the biggest. We're trying to be the one you remember, a bright spot. The morning coffee, the food made the way you'd make it for people you love, the beautifully set table at your celebration: those are the vehicle. The destination is always the person.
